5 Common Cellulite Myths That Every Woman Should Know

Cellulite MythsAlthough most of us women have various body parts that we’d love to change, from our mommy-related tummy pooch to our bigger-than-I’d-like thighs to our double (or even triple) chin, there is one thing most of us agree on—cellulite on any area of our body is the worst.

In fact, it can even make us desperate enough to try just about anything to get rid of it.

However, before you set out to banish every inch of dimpled skin on your body, it is important that you understand as much as you can about this particular “condition” so that you don’t get sucked into trying things that simply won’t work.

To help with this, let’s look at five very common cellulite myths that every woman should know, as well as the truths behind them.

Myth #1: Only adults have to deal with cellulite

While it may seem like cellulite is something that develops as you enter into adulthood, it is possible for teens to have cellulite too.  That makes this issue a concern for a larger number of females, from puberty into old age.

Myth #2: Thin women can’t have cellulite

Certainly, the more fat you have under your skin, the more cellulite you are likely to have.  However, as Medical News Today reports, there is also a genetic compound to cellulite.

Specifically, they state that, “Genes may predispose an individual to particular characteristics associated with cellulite, such as gender, race, slow metabolism, distribution of fat just underneath the skin, and circulatory insufficiency.”

Myth #3: Tan skin helps cellulite look better

Most women feel more beautiful with tanned skin, but letting the sun’s rays hit your cellulite can actually worsen the problem.  Tanning reduces your skin’s elasticity, which is why you often see more wrinkles on people that spend a lot of time in the sun consistently.

This lessening of your skin’s firmness impacts the appearance of your cellulite, making it look worse and not better in the end.

Myth #4: Cellulite creams don’t work

In reality, cellulite creams are often an essential part of the cellulite-reduction process.  Certainly, if you have a lot of cellulite, a cream may not make it suddenly disappear, but the dermis-thickening response caused by cellulite creams can often reduce its appearance.

Just as with anything else, this form of treatment has differing effects based on how well your body responds to it.

Myth #5: Liposuction is a great way to get rid of cellulite

Getting your fat professionally removed may seem like a good quick fix when it comes to decreasing or eliminating of your cellulite, but, sadly, it doesn’t work.

The Mayo Clinic states, “Though liposuction can shape the body, it won’t remove cellulite, and it may make the cellulite appear worse.”   So, if you were thinking of taking this route, you may want to think again.

The best way to attack any issue starts with first understanding it.  Now that you know the truth behind your cellulite, you will be better prepared to make good decisions as to how to deal with it.
