Quick Summary:
I ended up giving Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Lotion 2/5 stars.
Philosophy is a very well known brand, so I was excited to get my hands on this firming body lotion.
But I’ve got to say… I was pretty underwhelmed after using it for a while.
It’s listed as a perfumed firming body emulsion.
I did get some minor results; my skin was softer and felt more hydrated.
But it really didn’t do anything for the appearance of my cellulite.
I’m not expecting the world out of these products, but it definitely performed below par compared to other cellulite creams.
It felt more like a glorified moisturizer rather than an actual firming lotion.
And there are most definitely superior moisturizers out there, so it didn’t even knock my socks off in that department.
Another huge bummer is that it uses parabens in the formula.
I personally try to avoid all parabens and sulfates in my beauty products because they’re potentially harmful preservatives.
So the ingredient list overall wasn’t super appealing to me.
The plus sides are that it does have a light, feminine scent to it.
And the pump dispenser makes it easy to apply.
However, I noticed the lotion itself is pretty thick and left a greasy feel for a while after.
All in all, I was unenthused with this Philosophy product.
Detailed Opinion:
Texture/Feel
Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Lotion pumps out of the bottle as a white lotion.
It has a creamy texture that feels a bit thicker than your average lotion.
It feels more like a mixture of a cream and lotion.
Application
The application process is pretty simple and straightforward.
The bottle has a pump dispenser that makes it easy to apply.
To use it, apply a generous amount to your skin with your fingertips.
Then massage in gently with soothing, circular motions.
The lotion is kind of thick so it leaves a white paste until you fully rub it in, which takes a little elbow grease at times.
Drying Time
This lotion totally dries in about 5 – 10 minutes.
However, it feels fairly heavy on the skin if you use it on larger areas of your body (legs, booty, belly).
It feels slightly greasy to me, too.
I live in Arizona and summer time heat is no joke, so wearing this in June – July was kind of icky.
Smell (in the bottle)
In the bottle, this lotion has a very light, crisp, clean scent.
It’s a pleasant, very feminine smell.
It almost reminds of “unscented” lotions or suntan lotion.
Smell (a few hours after application)
The smell is strongest right after applying it.
The smell fades away after an hour or so.
Short Term Results
My skin wasn’t as dry after using this lotion.
It helped amp up some moisture and hydration.
So my skin felt softer.
Long Term Results
I noticed a few longer term results after using this lotion for a while.
My skin felt healthier and more hydrated.
But as far as cellulite goes, it really just didn’t help at all.
No lotion is going to zap cellulite 100% but this product was definitely below average.
It felt more like an expensive moisturizer rather than a firming body lotion.
Ingredients
Some beneficial ingredients in Amazing Grace Firming Body Lotion are Macadamia seed oil, Olive oil, and Shea butter.
Macadamia oil is rich in essential fatty acids. It’s naturally moisturizing and anti-inflammatory, so it’s great for dry, sensitive skin types.
It helps restore your skin’s barrier function and works to keep skin hydrated by repairing and healing.
Olive oil is believed to have key anti-aging properties. Researchers have shown that olive oil helps diminish signs of aging at a cellular level.
This oil is rich in healthy antioxidants and contains beauty boosters and moisturizers like Vitamin E, Vitamin A, and essential fatty acids.
It’s also thought to help reduce the appearance of cellulite by tightening and firming the skin.
Shea butter is high in Vitamin A, which is thought to be effective in boosting collagen formation and aids in repairing skin tissue.
It works to strengthen the skin’s collagen fibers and make it more resilient, which helps smooth and plump the “orange peel” look of cellulite.
Shea butter may also help increase blood flow, which bumps up oxygen levels and nourishes damaged skin.
Unfortunately, this firming lotion contains potentially harmful parabens.
I was really disappointed to see these synthetic preservatives in the ingredients.
This product lost more points in my book because of this.
Here’s the full line up of ingredients so you can see what exactly Philosophy uses: Water (aqua), fragrance (parfum), macadamia ternifolia seed oil, isocetyl stearoyl stearate, glycerin, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, dimethicone, glyceryl stearate, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), cetearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, peg-100 stearate, stearic acid, phytosterol/octyldodecyl lauroyl glutamate, tocopheryl acetate, potassium ascorbyl tocopheryl phosphate, xanthan gum, carbomer, diazolidinyl urea, triethanolamine, methylparaben, propylparaben, tetrasodium edta.
Price
A 16 fl oz bottle is $39.00 on the Philosophy website.
It works out to $2.43 per oz.
That’s super inexpensive! And the bottle lasts you a while.
However, you do have to pay $5.95 for shipping, so it’s $44.95 out the door.
BUT you get free shipping on $50+ orders, so that could come in handy if something else strikes your fancy on the Philosophy site.
Even including shipping, it’s definitely much cheaper than your average cellulite lotion.
